Syma s107 Helicopter Review

The Syma s107 RC helicopter can be found in just a few colours, bright red and bright yellow(NEW!! NOW IN BLUE). Through initial glimpse it looks not unlike the vast majority of alternative interior helicopters sold at the moment. But there are a few vital differences.

First of all the Syma s107 chopper showcases an aluminium skeleton as well as a hard plastic housing rendering it highly hard-wearing. My Syma s107 has sustained numerous collisions, frequently straight into my partner as I like to hover it around her head which I consider very funny but needless to say she doesn't share my obvious delight of this action. I have now had to reluctantly halt my most beloved activity for fear of her turning into my Ex girlfriend.

Seriously though I've crashed my s107 repeatedly through trying to carry out tricks, for example landing it in-between shelves and the like (see my video below). For me this is what makes the Syma s107 a great deal of fun because of the incredible control it features it encourages you to push your ability to the limit and in spite of these breathtaking collisions mine continually fly's the same as it did the moment I obtained it.

Owing to becoming a complete gadget nut my initial experience with the Syma s107 turned out to be at the Channel 5 Gadget Show Live last year. This is actually a United Kingdom based show where fantastic gadgets coming from all around the world are dragged into a single place for us lucky gadgeters to have a go with and invest in as we so desire.

Syma s107 Takes Off

To start with, I was questionable about getting a Syma s107 simply because I had recently purchased several less pricey makes and models from numerous manufacturers and discovered them to be exceptionally unsatisfactory. The issue I commonly experienced was that they wouldn't fly in a straight line in spite of how much tweaking I did to them and would subsequently break upon landing, the reality is for a while I was hooked on paying for these low-priced bloody choppers hunting for the one that would complete my flying needs, yet each of them I purchased let me down.

I started to think it was my rubbish flying and maybe it was but within minutes of getting my sweaty mitts on the Syma s107 I had it flying like a dream. It really does only take a few minutes to get the hang of before you have a grasp of the controls, which makes the Syma s107 ideally suited for people who are just getting started with micro helicopters be they children or adults alike.

The reason it fly's so well is because it comes with the latest GYRO technology for elevated steadiness, regardless of whether flying or hovering which keeps the s107 nice and stable to prevent wobbling while also allowing for more accurate dive-bombing action.

The Controller takes 6 AA batteries which arenot included and comes with full 3 Channels: Up, Down, Left, Right, Forward and Backward. The Syma s107 Indoor Helicopter is fitted with a 1 cell 3.7v lithium polymer battery and comes packaged with USB charging cable to instantly power it up through just about any USB port you have that gives out power, for example lap top , pc or Wii. If you prefer it can be charged straight from the controller but obviously at a cost to the energy of your batteries.

Both these methods take the same amount of time which is around 30 minutes from a compete discharge to a full charge and the USB has a little orange light that lets you know when the Helicopter is fully charged.. Once at full charge your Syma s107 will give you around 10 to 15 minutes flight time. Patience has never been one of my strong points so I ended up buying another one which I put on charge whilst flying the other, hence allowing me to have continuous flight time, Genius I know!! Ok maybe not but it works for me.

The Syma s107 indoor helicopter is made for flying indoors as the title cleverly suggests, so there is no need to wait for the perfect day to go out and fly it as is the case with many outdoor helicopters. There is great fun to have here whether it’s just flying round your living room or bedroom and even setting little challenges like using a table matt as a landing pad or said girlfriend's head. The s107 can be flown just about anywhere around the house due to the great amount of control it provides although I wouldn't advise flying whilst in the bath for obvious reasons, it’s not called a chopper for nothing you know! Due to the Syma s107 being an indoor helicopter the controller doesn't have the traditional pull out metal wire transmitter and uses an inferred method instead (see photo). In my ignorance I did try to fly mine outside one evening and got some success but due the s107 being so small at 7.5"L x 1.5"W x 3.5"H it is very light, so even a small amount of wind will carry it away. I got firsthand experience of this and found myself knocking on my next neighbour’s door to collect it. very embarrassing!

To Sum up then the Syma s107 is certainly the best helicopter I have ever owned and as I've already said I have purchased quite a few in my time. Its strengths are it has a very cool looking design and produces a flashing light when turned on which looks great when in a dimly lit room. The s107 is very durable and easy to fly even for beginners and as such can be used in small areas due to the great control it offers. The only weakness I can really think of is that the battery just doesn't seem to last long enough at around 10 to 15 minutes because time fly's when you are having fun (sorry I couldn't help myself). Plus the fact that you can't fly it outside but I suppose it wasn't designed for that anyway?
